Portfolio Cover

For this project we were supposed to create a portfolio using a photo of ourselves and then a minimum of 2 pieces of art from either this class or another class. For the cover I chose to use a Halloween photo of myself dressed up as a nurse from silent hill 3. I also used a stock photo of an old and abandoned prison and 2 stock textures and put them together in Photoshop. I was trying to give it a dark and grungy feel by using a rusty red colour scheme.

Calendar

For this project we were supposed to create a calendar for an organization in InDesign. I chose to make a calendar for the Osbourne Village in Winnipeg. The photo I used for the background of the calendar was taken in the vile village on the second floor of one of the restaurants. I chose to make the important date dots yellow to tie in with the yellow in the photo.

Graphics Poster

For the graphics poster project we were supposed to find a quote about graphic arts and then make a poster following the theme of the quote. I chose to use a quote by and because of its context I chose to draw a hand shoving the word genius down a person/creatures throat. I chose to use the colors red gold and purple because I wanted the poster to be bold and catch your eyes very easily.

Article

For our article project we were supposed to find an article on a topic of our choice and make it look as if it was part of a magazine on to pages facing each other. I chose to do an article about a video game called dragon age.I chose to use a red, black and white theme to match the theme of the game as well

Vector Vinyl

For this project we used adobe illustrator to make a vector rendering of an image of our choice. I chose to use a stock photo of a man and then slightly alter it to look like one of my original characters. I chose to make the decal on red vinyl so I could put it onto my black ps2 and actually be able to see it.

Vector Technical

For our Vector Technical project we were supposed to recreate an existing photograph in Illustrator. I chose to vector a butterfly.I chose this specific butterfly because I thought it had a beautiful wing pattern and all of the colors were so strong and contransting compared to each-other.

Canned Drink Labels

This project we were supposed to design 3 different drink labels and use only Adobe Illustrator. I chose to do three different kinds of energy drinks and gave them all very edgy names. For the first label on the left I chose a blue color scheme to give it a cold and frosty feel to it. For the top icicles I used a stock photo of icicles and did a vector rendering of the different shades in the ice. For the bottom icicles I simply copied, flipped and mirrored the top icicles. With the font I was looking for something that looked almost like cracked ice.

For the second label in the middle I gave it a yellow and green color scheme to give it a toxic and acidic look to go with its name. The background swirls started out as just black squares and I used the warp and twirl tools to make them look like smoke or like it was swirling in water. For the font I wanted something that looked like it was being eroded or being eaten away to match with the name.

For the last label on the right I wanted something simple and solid. For the font I was looking for something that seemed like something you'd see in those old western wanted posters. For the colors I wanted it to have a bold and dangerous feel so I chose black red and white. For the horse I used a stock photo of a running horse and did an almost silhouette like vector, it also had a very interesting pattern in its coat and mane so I used white to add those elements into it.

Career Bridge Logos

Our next project was to design a logo for 'Career Bridge.' For the top logo I chose to use a reddish brown color scheme to symbolise a ‘calm passion’ and clean fonts to show that its business oriented. With the C in particular I chose the font because it looked as if the C had a small bridge before it, which seems fitting. I also put an arch going from one side of the logo to the other, cutting through the logo to look like a bridge bringing it all together.

For the bottom logo I chose a some what neutral blue color scheme to seem established and almost corperate. With the fonts I chose something that was clean and sharp. I connected the C and the B together to symbolise the whole point of the Career Bridge Program, to connect students with a career once their schooling is done.

SUDS Poster

For this project we were supposed to create a poster for a play called SUDS, which in a nutshell was about a car wash and a reporter coming there to give someone a chance at fame. So right off the bat I knew I wanted to have a person holding a squeegee. I used a stock photo to create a silhouette made the squeegee the opposite color so it stood out. In the stock photo the person was leaning on a bar so I thought it would be a good idea to make it look like the person was leaning on some play information on the poster. I used a bunch of photoshop brushes for the background. In the top I put some grundgy checkerboard and little scribbles to show the not as glamorous start out these people would have. Then at the bottom the curvy arrows look almost like waves and to show direction to the city buildings all to show that the person the reporter chooses if off to fame. To tie these two things together I put bubbles to symbolize the car wash itself.

CD Cover

For my CD cover I chose to use a pretend band I made up, Eternal Eclipse. Because of the name I decided to give it a space theme. I took 3 stock photos, one of a moon, one of a crystal orb and another of a sundial face and manipulated them to look like a moon eclipsing the sun. For the background I chose another 3 stock photos, each of different nebulas, and used different filters and brought them together. For the font I was looking for an old typewriter look, and managed to find a font based off of old world war 2 german typewriters which looked exactly like what I was looking for. I changed the color of the capital E just to make it stand out a little more then the other letters. Finally I took a copy of the font layer and motion blurred it.
